Amex Platinum travel benefits
Last reviewed: September 2026. Lounge policies, statement credits, hotel benefits and insurance coverage may change. Review the current American Express Benefit Terms before relying on a specific travel feature.
The Platinum Card® from American Express includes airport lounge access, elevated rewards on certain travel purchases, hotel benefits, travel statement credits and several travel insurance and assistance features.
These benefits have specific requirements and limitations, so they should be described individually rather than as a blanket promise of premium or comprehensive travel coverage.
American Express Global Lounge Collection
Eligible U.S. Platinum Card Members currently have access to more than 1,550 participating airport lounges in more than 500 airports through the American Express Global Lounge Collection®.
Participating programs currently include Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass™ after enrollment, Plaza Premium, Escape Lounges, Delta Sky Club for eligible Delta travel and additional participating partners.
Access remains subject to individual lounge capacity, same-day travel requirements, guest policies and other program-specific rules.
Centurion Lounge access
Eligible Platinum Card Members can currently access participating Centurion Lounges when the applicable same-day travel and entry requirements are satisfied.
Complimentary guest access is not automatically included under every circumstance. Current guest policies depend on location and spending qualification, and fees may apply.
Delta Sky Club access
Eligible Platinum Card Members currently receive 10 Delta Sky Club visits during the applicable annual access period when traveling on an eligible same-day Delta flight.
Card Members who reach $75,000 in eligible purchases during a calendar year can currently unlock unlimited Delta Sky Club visits under the applicable terms.
This benefit should therefore not be represented as unconditional unlimited Delta Sky Club access.
5X Membership Rewards points on eligible travel
The Platinum Card currently earns 5X Membership Rewards® points on eligible flights booked directly with airlines or through American Express Travel, on up to $500,000 in qualifying flight purchases each calendar year.
Eligible prepaid hotel reservations booked through American Express Travel also currently earn 5X points.
Not every travel purchase automatically qualifies for the 5X rate.
$600 Hotel Credit
The Platinum Card currently provides up to $600 per calendar year in statement credits for qualifying prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection bookings through American Express Travel.
The credit is currently divided into up to $300 during the first half of the calendar year and another $300 during the second half.
The Hotel Collection requires a minimum two-night qualifying stay.
Fine Hotels + Resorts
Fine Hotels + Resorts bookings currently include a collection of property benefits when applicable booking requirements are met.
- Daily breakfast for two;
- guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout;
- Room upgrade upon arrival when available;
- A property credit generally valued at $100 toward eligible charges;
- Early check-in when available;
- Additional property-specific amenities.
Actual benefit value varies according to the property, room rate, upgrade availability and use of included amenities.
Complimentary hotel status
Eligible Platinum Card Members can currently enroll in complimentary Hilton Honors Gold Status and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status.
Eligible Card Members can also currently enroll in Leaders Club Sterling Status with The Leading Hotels of the World.
Hotel program benefits and availability are controlled by the applicable loyalty program and participating properties.
$200 Airline Fee Credit
After selecting one qualifying airline, eligible Platinum Card Members can currently receive up to $200 per calendar year in statement credits for qualifying incidental airline fees charged to the Card.
This is not a general airfare credit. Qualifying transactions and airlines are determined by the current benefit terms.
CLEAR+ credit
The Card currently provides up to $219 per calendar year in statement credits toward an eligible CLEAR+ membership paid with the Platinum Card.
CLEAR+ eligibility, airport availability and membership terms are determined by CLEAR.
Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit
Eligible Platinum Card Members currently receive a periodic statement credit toward either a qualifying Global Entry application fee or an eligible TSA PreCheck® application fee charged to the Card.
Current credit limits are $120 for Global Entry and up to $85 for TSA PreCheck under the applicable terms.
Approval for either program is determined by the appropriate U.S. government agency.
Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
If an eligible round trip is purchased according to the benefit requirements and a covered reason causes cancellation or interruption, current coverage can reimburse qualifying non-refundable expenses up to $10,000 per trip and up to $20,000 per eligible Card per 12 consecutive months.
Coverage applies only when the circumstances meet the definitions and requirements in the applicable insurance policy.
Trip Delay Insurance
For qualifying trips purchased according to the coverage requirements, Trip Delay Insurance can currently reimburse certain eligible additional expenses when a covered delay exceeds six hours.
Current reimbursement is up to $500 per eligible trip, subject to the applicable claim and annual limits.
Baggage Insurance
The Platinum Card currently includes a Baggage Insurance Plan that may provide coverage for qualifying lost, damaged or stolen baggage when eligible common-carrier fares are purchased according to the benefit terms.
Coverage limits, item exclusions and documentation requirements apply.
Rental vehicle protection
The Platinum Card currently includes Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance that may cover eligible damage or theft when the entire qualifying rental is paid with the Card and the rental company's collision damage waiver is declined.
The standard benefit is generally secondary coverage and does not include liability coverage. Certain countries, vehicles and rental situations are excluded.
American Express also offers an optional Premium Car Rental Protection product that requires enrollment and charges a separate fee when an eligible rental occurs. That optional product should not be confused with the standard Card benefit.
Premium Global Assist Hotline
When traveling more than 100 miles from home, eligible Platinum Card Members currently have access to the Premium Global Assist® Hotline for emergency coordination and referrals.
The service can assist with medical, legal and other emergency resources. Third-party costs generally remain the Card Member's responsibility unless a specific covered emergency transportation service is approved and coordinated under the applicable terms.
No foreign transaction fees
The U.S. consumer Platinum Card currently does not charge foreign transaction fees.
Other potential international costs, including merchant currency conversion and travel-related expenses, remain separate considerations.
