Venture Rewards: travel more, spend less
Last reviewed: September 2026. Capital One rewards, APRs, fees, travel benefits, transfer partners and promotional offers may change. Review Capital One's current terms and applicable Cardholder Benefits Guide before relying on a specific feature.
The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is a travel rewards card that earns miles on eligible purchases and provides several ways to use those miles for travel and other redemptions.
The card currently earns unlimited 2X miles per dollar on everyday purchases and 5X miles on eligible hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.
Understanding the card's earning structure, redemption options, annual fee and travel-related benefits can help consumers evaluate whether it fits their normal spending and travel habits.
Venture Rewards at a Glance
The Venture Rewards Card currently has the following core features:
- Annual fee: $95;
- Everyday purchases: unlimited 2X miles per dollar;
- Capital One Travel: 5X miles on eligible hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel;
- Foreign transaction fee: none under current Capital One terms;
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck®: up to a $120 statement credit on an eligible application fee;
- Rewards expiration: miles do not expire for the life of the account, subject to program terms;
- Mileage cap: no standard limit on miles earned from eligible purchases.
Purchase APRs and other account terms vary. Consumers should review Capital One's current pricing disclosures before applying.
Earn 2X Miles on Everyday Purchases
One of Venture Rewards' main characteristics is its straightforward base earning structure.
Eligible everyday purchases currently earn unlimited 2 miles per dollar without requiring cardholders to activate rotating quarterly categories.
This can make the rewards structure relatively easy to track, but earning additional miles should not be a reason to increase spending beyond a normal budget.
If purchases result in interest charges, borrowing costs can reduce or exceed the value of the rewards earned.
For a broader explanation of the earning structure, see Earning big with Venture Rewards.
Earn 5X Miles Through Capital One Travel
Venture cardholders currently earn 5X miles per dollar on eligible hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel.
The higher earning rate does not automatically apply to every travel purchase. A hotel reservation booked directly with a hotel, for example, generally does not receive the Capital One Travel 5X rate simply because it is a travel expense.
Before choosing a travel portal solely for additional miles, consumers may want to compare the total price, cancellation terms, loyalty-program eligibility and booking conditions with those available directly from the travel provider.
Redeem Miles Toward Travel Purchases
Capital One currently allows eligible Venture miles to be used in several travel-related ways.
- Book eligible travel through Capital One Travel;
- Use miles toward qualifying recent travel purchases charged to the card;
- Transfer eligible miles to participating airline and hotel loyalty programs.
Redemption values and conditions can differ depending on the method used.
Consumers should compare the number of miles required with the cash cost of the same travel rather than assuming a particular redemption method always provides greater value.
Venture Miles Can Also Be Used Outside Travel
Travel is not the only available redemption category.
Capital One currently provides additional redemption options that can include:
- Cash back;
- Gift cards;
- Certain purchases;
- Eligible experiences.
Different options may assign different values to each mile, so the number of miles required should be reviewed before redeeming.
Transfer Miles to Participating Loyalty Programs
Eligible Venture miles can currently be transferred to more than 15 participating airline and hotel loyalty programs.
Transfer ratios vary by partner, and Capital One can change participating programs and ratios over time.
Once transferred, rewards generally become subject to the receiving loyalty program's rules, including its own expiration, availability and redemption policies.
Because transfers may be irreversible, cardholders can confirm award availability and the applicable transfer ratio before moving a substantial number of miles.
Miles Do Not Expire for the Life of the Account
Capital One currently states that Venture miles do not expire for the life of the account.
This allows cardholders to accumulate miles rather than redeeming them immediately.
However, the fact that miles do not expire does not guarantee that individual redemption values, transfer ratios or participating partners will remain unchanged.
No Foreign Transaction Fees
Capital One currently does not charge a foreign transaction fee on purchases made with the Venture Rewards Card outside the United States.
This does not mean every international transaction is free of other potential costs. Exchange rates, merchant pricing and optional dynamic currency conversion can affect the final amount paid.
Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Credit
Eligible Venture cardholders currently receive up to a $120 statement credit when the card is used to pay an eligible Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® application fee.
Capital One currently states that the benefit is available according to the timing and eligibility requirements in the applicable terms.
Approval for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck is determined by the applicable U.S. government program, not by Capital One.
Travel Accident Insurance
Capital One currently lists travel accident insurance among Venture's travel-related benefits.
Coverage applies only to eligible covered losses and generally requires qualifying passenger transportation to be purchased with the card.
This benefit should not be interpreted as comprehensive travel or medical insurance. Coverage limits, exclusions and eligibility requirements are defined in the applicable Cardholder Benefits Guide.
Rental Car Collision Coverage
Eligible Venture cardholders may receive rental vehicle collision or theft coverage when the applicable requirements are satisfied.
This coverage should not be treated as comprehensive automobile insurance. Other exclusions, limits and insurance requirements may apply.
24-Hour Travel Assistance
Venture also includes access to travel assistance services in qualifying circumstances.
Capital One currently notes that assistance may include arranging an emergency replacement card or an eligible emergency cash advance if the card is lost or stolen.
An emergency cash advance is not complimentary money and may be subject to applicable cash advance terms, fees and interest.
Travel assistance also should not be interpreted as automatically covering third-party transportation, medical, legal or other expenses.
For additional details about the card's travel-related features, see Venture Rewards travel perks.
Lifestyle Collection Benefits
Eligible Venture cardholders currently have access to Capital One's Lifestyle Collection of hotels, resorts and professionally managed vacation rentals.
Qualifying reservations currently include a $50 experience credit. Other benefits can include room upgrades, early check-in and late checkout when available.
These benefits apply only to eligible Lifestyle Collection reservations and are subject to the applicable booking and property terms.
Hertz Five Star Status
Eligible Venture cardholders currently receive complimentary Hertz® Five Star status, subject to enrollment and Hertz program terms.
Individual benefits and availability depend on Hertz's current loyalty-program rules and participating rental locations.
Consider the $95 Annual Fee
The Venture Rewards Card currently charges a $95 annual fee.
Whether the card provides enough value to justify that cost depends on factors such as annual spending, travel habits, miles redeemed and actual use of the card's benefits.
No single benefit should be assumed to offset the annual fee for every cardholder.
