Citi Rewards+ bonus categories

Last reviewed: September 2026. Citi Rewards+® has been replaced by Citi Strata℠. The reward categories below describe the current Citi Strata product rather than the former Rewards+ earning structure.

The former Citi Rewards+ Card historically earned 2X ThankYou® Points at supermarkets and gas stations on the first $6,000 in combined annual purchases and 1X afterward.

The current Citi Strata Card uses a different set of accelerated reward categories.

5X through Citi Travel

Citi Strata currently earns 5 ThankYou Points per dollar on eligible hotels, car rentals and attractions booked through Citi Travel.

The 5X rate does not automatically apply to every type of travel or to reservations booked outside Citi Travel.

3X at supermarkets

Eligible supermarket purchases currently earn 3 ThankYou Points per dollar.

Merchant coding determines qualification. A merchant that sells groceries but is classified primarily as another type of business may not receive the supermarket rate.

3X at gas and EV charging stations

The current Citi Strata Card earns 3X ThankYou Points on eligible purchases at gas stations and EV charging stations.

This replaces the former Rewards+ structure that offered 2X at gas stations subject to a combined annual spending cap with supermarkets.

3X on select transit

Citi Strata currently provides 3X points on eligible select transit purchases.

Qualification depends on Citi's current category definitions and merchant classification.

3X in a Self-Select Category

Cardholders can currently select one eligible category to earn 3X points.

• Fitness Clubs;
• Select Streaming Services;
• Live Entertainment;
• Cosmetic Stores, Barber Shops and Hair Salons;
• Pet Supply Stores.

Select Streaming Services is currently the default Self-Select Category when the account is opened.

The primary cardmember can change the selected category once per calendar quarter. Citi states that a new selection generally takes effect the following day at 12 a.m. Central Time.

2X at restaurants

Eligible restaurant purchases currently earn 2 ThankYou Points per dollar with Citi Strata.

1X on other eligible purchases

Eligible purchases that do not qualify for an accelerated category generally earn 1 ThankYou Point per dollar.

Round Up no longer applies

The former Rewards+ program automatically rounded points from qualifying purchases to the nearest 10 points.

This is no longer part of the current Citi Strata program. Small purchases therefore should not be described as automatically earning at least 10 points.

There is no longer a $6,000 combined supermarket and gas cap

The former Rewards+ Card applied its 2X supermarket and gas station rate to the first $6,000 in combined annual purchases.

That structure belongs to the former product and should not be carried into current Citi Strata coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Does Citi Strata earn 2X at supermarkets and gas stations?

No. The current Citi Strata Card earns 3X on eligible supermarket purchases and 3X at eligible gas and EV charging stations.

Does Citi Strata round points up to 10?

No. That was a feature of the former Citi Rewards+ Card.

How often can the Self-Select Category be changed?

Citi currently allows the primary cardmember to change the eligible Self-Select Category once per calendar quarter.

Final considerations

The current Citi Strata rewards structure is considerably different from the former Citi Rewards+ bonus system.

Current cardholders and applicants should use Citi's present category definitions rather than the former 2X/$6,000 and Round Up rules.
